Volunteers & Membership
There are many ways to contribute to RAL's work. We welcome people who would like to offer their time and skills to join RAL, volunteer casually or assist at events.
What is a member?
In essence, a member is a volunteer of RAL who pays an annual fee of $10 to be formally registered. Membership applies to both casual volunteers, who participate intermittently, and professional volunteers, who dedicate weekly time to set duties.
Registration is important as these fees help cover basic office operations and allow volunteers to become eligible to vote at our Annual General Meeting at the start of the new year.
Membership also gives you access to our monthly meetings at Logan Central Library, where insights into the NGO landscape and RAL's current activities are discussed. At each meeting, a guest speaker is invited to give a short session on a relevant topic, such as employability and education pathways, immigration bills or community building practices.
At these meetings, we encourage members to offer suggestions for events or initiatives from their individual perspective. Feedback is valuable and necessary to the social fabric of our grassroots organisation and ensures that we are consistently improving and bridging gaps using collective knowledge.
Volunteering without membership
Membership is not required for people who are helping RAL on a once-off basis, such as assisting at an event where extra manpower is needed. These volunteers do not pay the $10 membership fee.
Student interns are also not required to pay a membership fee. These placements are organised separately from RAL's volunteer membership and are generally undertaken through a university as part of a student's course or professional development.
See our Opportunities page for further information on specific professional volunteer roles and student placements, or simply submit a form on our Contact page to express interest in casual volunteering.
