Our Mission
The Refugee Association of Logan (RAL) is a registered not for profit organisation established in 2013 to respond to the needs of vulnerable Refugees and Asylum Seekers living in the Logan area.
What’s the difference?
Both refugees and asylum seekers are people forced to leave their home countries due to violence, persecution, conflict or other dangerous circumstances. The first is legally recognised. The second is not and holds a pending status on their asylum claim.
What we do
Since we started, we have distributed everyday items, clothing and food to hundreds of people in need of relief. We also provide weekly English lessons and maintain a secretarial service that includes form filling and providing information around immigration policy.
We advocate on behalf of Refugees and Asylum Seekers for the provision of housing, education and medical care, combining efforts with other local and national organisations.
We receive no official funding to carry out our services and rely primarily on donor contributions to continue our efforts. Volunteers are the backbone of our organisation and ensure our services remain up and running.
We encourage those interested in providing their skills, to get in touch with us, via our Volunteers & Membership and Opportunities page. We also welcome students to intern at RAL to gain valuable exposure and development in the not-for-profit sector.
Across the year, we host a number of events, permitting the opportunity for both volunteers and refugees to intermingle and benefit from one another. Each month, we also host a meeting in our headquarters, located at the Logan Central Library, where we provide a snapshot of developments across the world, changes to Australian legislation and emerging resources and programs.
Our goal is to provide a sense of safety and belonging to those resettling in Australia and embrace them into the fabric of our community.
We are a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
